Dear President, Minister, Representative, Sir, Madam, To whom it concerns:,

I'd like to tell you about the immense suffering of dogs and other animals such as domesticated pigs, cats, rabbits, chickens, bats, snakes and jungle rats in your country.

The exact number of dogs and cats in the meat trade is unclear but the Jakarta Aid Network claims more than 200,000 are slaughtered every year.

Do you know what happens to the dogs once they are cought ?

Hunters often tie the dogs legs up behind their backs - which can dislocate their shoulders - and bind their mouths shut so they cannot bite.

They would scream in terror as the trader lassoed it inside the cage and continued screaming until the moment they're clubbed unconscious.

Dogs are being pulled from cramped cages, clubbed on the head and then flame-grilled alive at the local markets on a near daily-basis (everyday except Sunday).

The other animals face the same fate.

The emaciated dogs cower from the lasso of a slaughterhouse worker who reaches into the metal cage they have been trapped in for days - without food or water

The dogs are smashed on the head a couple of times with a lump of wood, which does NOT kill them, it only temporarily stuns them. They are still conscious.

The dog’s are then hoisted out of the iron cage by the throat and still alive, set on fire.

It takes at least several minutes for them to slowly die, in horrific agony. As the flames hit the dog’s body, its legs ad face shudder uncontrollably, with shock and agony. They are unable to scream out, but their lower jaw opens and closes, in involuntary actions, as if to scream out silent screams.

I'd also like to draw your attention to the following:

- diseases passed between dogs, cats and humans and the threat to innocent people who consume the meat, including international tourists.

- dogs are slaughtered in front of little children who were left traumatized and expected to eat the dogs as their dinner, after seeing them struggle and hearing their screams.

- many of the dogs who end up in slaughterhouses are strays and pets. Dog snatchers on motorbikes lasso them around the neck and speed off, animal rights groups have claimed. Some dogs are captured while their owners are walking them, and a rare few are bought from poor villagers for 'a few dollars'.

Countless thousands of Indonesian pet owners have suffered the heartbreak of having their loved pet kidnapped for dog meat.

Current pet owners live in constant fear of the same fate happening to their loved pet, and call for the dog and cat meat trade to be immediately banned.

- many Indonesian street dogs are accustomed to people, who feed them regularly, and do not run away from dog snatchers, catching and killing trusting abandoned pets, that’s what they are in fact, is devious.

- the cruelty taking place within dog meat markets and slaughterhouses have a negative impact upon thousands of tourists who photograph and video the atrocities.

Dogs are socially intelligent animals that crave companionship so it is horrible to see meat traders killing the chosen ones in full view of still-caged animals a few metres away.

It is inconceivable how human beings can hold a blowtorch flame on ALIVE dogs as they writhe in agony in front of them!

This shows the complete lack of empathy and compassion towards the animals.

I urge you to take another step forward and become a leader in ending the dog and cat meat trade.
