Subject: Venerable Thich Nhat Hanh, please speak out against the cruelty of
the dog and cat meat trade!
To our highly respected Teacher Thich Nhat Hanh:
We ask you to please watch the videos of South Korea’s dog meat industry:
Each year, around 30 million dogs are slaughtered and eaten in Asia,
including Korea, China, Indonesia and Vietnam.
In South Korea alone, 2.5 million dogs and thousands of cats are estimated
to be brutally slaughtered and eaten annually.
Dogs that are bred on dog farms live in miserable conditions.
In South Korea, dog meat consumption is illegal but their government allows
it to continue, causing immense suffering to these animals.
Any breed of dog can be exploited for their meat, including stolen pets and
abandoned dogs.
They are confined to small filthy cages, given rotten and unfit for
consumption scraps of food, denied space to exercise and have no shelter from
extreme weather conditions.
They cannot even feel the ground beneath their paws as they are contained
in wire cages off the ground.
These conditions are deplorable and cruel.
Dogs are slaughtered in the most brutal and painful methods, often in front
of other dogs who watch in fear for their lives.
They are beaten, stabbed, hanged, butchered, thrown into pots of boiling
water, skinned alive, electrocuted or blow torched, often whilst still being
alive.
This inhumane torture must stop.
Thich Nhat Hanh, you have taught us, ‘all violence is injustice’.
We ask you to speak out against the violence that happens daily in South
Korea; the dog meat trade, where animals are subject to barbaric acts of torture
and unimaginable suffering.
We respectfully ask you to stand up for the animals in South Korea, and
other Asian countries that consume dogs, and publicly voice your support in
favor of stopping the dog meat trade.
We ask you to stand with KoreanDogs.Org, and share your condemnation for
this cruel trade and educate people that being a compassionate society benefits
everybody.
The time is now to end this cruel industry.
An online petition calling for your support in ending the horrendous dog
and cat meat cruelty is in progress:
Thank you in advance for your response.
Yours sincerely,
