לכבוד השר להגנת הסביבה ח״כ זאב אלקין,
I would like to express my support and join to the demand made by Monkey Rescue, a public-benefit company, requiring the Israeli government to fulfill its commitment to transfer the Mazor farm monkeys to a permanent sanctuary and treat them in welfare for the rest of their lives.
I strictly condemn the renunciation of the Israeli Ministry of Environmental Protection for its ethical and legal obligation to take care and protect the wildlife under its responsibility, which includes the 1,250 Mazor farm surviving monkeys and its intent to abandon them to a harsh fate of starvation and negligence.
It goes without saying that a philanthropic organization such as Monkey Rescue can not and should not bear such immense costs forever, costs that should be imposed on the very government that for years authorized the cruel and unnecessary trade of Mazor monkeys to laboratories worldwide.
I expect and demand that the Israeli Ministries of Environmental Protection and Finance do not abandon the Mazor survivors.
The Government of Israel must take immediate responsibility for these monkeys, move them to a funded permanent sanctuary and provide for them for the rest of their lives without delay.

לכבוד השר להגנת הסביבה ח״כ זאב אלקין,
ברצוני להביע את תמיכתי ולהצטרף לדרישת חברת ״שמורת הקופים״, חברה לתועלת הציבור, מהממשלה לקיים את הבטחתה להעביר בהקדם את הקופים מחוות מזור למקלט קבע ולטפל בהם בתנאי מחיה הולמים למשך שארית חייהם. אני רואה בחומרה את התנערותה של המדינה ממחויבותה החוקית והמוסרית לטפל ולהגן על חיות הבר שבשטחה ובכללן 1,250 הקופים ניצולי חוות מזור ובכוונת המשרד להגנת הסביבה להפקיר את הקופים הללו לגורלם.
לקראת סגירת החווה בינואר 2015 ניתנה לשמורת הקופים התחייבות מפורשת מהמשרד להגנת הסביבה (אז בראשות השר עמיר פרץ) כי לאחר פדיונם המשרד יקים ויממן מקלט קבע לקופים.
למרבה הצער, לאחר חילופי הממשלה והשרים להגנת הסביבה במאי 2015, התנער המשרד מכל הבטחותיו הקודמות. זאת בזמן ששמורת הקופים מוציאה מדי חודש עשרות אלפי דולרים מכספי תרומות רק על מנת למנוע את הפקרתם.
בכך יצרה המדינה מצב אבסורדי ומקומם בו כבר במשך קרוב לשנתיים מוחזקים כ-1,250 קופים מכספי תרומות כתוצאה ממחדל והזנחת הנושא על ידי הממשלה והפרה בוטה של כל הבטחותיה כלפי חברת שמורת הקופים, בעוד הזמן והכסף שנותרו למציאת פתרון קבע עבורם הולך ואוזל.
מובן מאליו שלא ניתן לדרוש מגוף פילנטרופי כמו שמורת הקופים לשאת בעלויות אחזקת הקופים לנצח, עלויות שאמורות היו מלכתחילה להיות מושתות על המדינה שאפשרה במשך שנים סחר אכזרי ומיותר בקופי מזור.
על כן תמיכתי בדרישת שמורת הקופים והציבור מהממשלה ובפרט ממשרדי האוצר והגנת הסביבה שלא להפקיר את הקופים. על המדינה לקחת אחריות באופן מיידי על גורל הקופים ניצולי מזור, להעבירם למקלט קבע מתוקצב ולדאוג להם למשך שארית חייהם, עוד בשבועות הקרובים.
