Subject: PyeongChang 2018 Olympics 2, International Winter Olympic
Sports Organizations
Dear members of the International Winter Olympic Sports
Organizations:
We ask you to please watch this video:
South Korea is not a poor country; it has the world’s 14th largest economy
and is home to global brands such as Samsung and Hyundai.
However, an estimated 2.5 million dogs and thousands of cats are
slaughtered and eaten each year in South Korea – but not before being subjected
to unending inhumane and downright cruel conditions: barren, raised, all-wire
cages, offering no protection from extreme weather.
They are given no water or medical care.
They get no exercise and often have their eardrums burst to deter
barking.
Koreans actually believe that the more pain and suffering an animal endures
the more beneficial the meat product will be to virility or health: so they hang
the animals, electrocute them, boil them alive or burn them to death.
South Korea is the only country known to have large, intensive farming
systems to supply the demand for dog meat – in addition, 20% of the meat dogs
are imported from China.
The Korean Government does nothing to end these profit-driven, tax-free,
unregulated trades, which peak at the Boknal so-called ‘festival’.
These shameful trades must be stopped – the South Korean Government must
take action to ban dog and cat-meat consumption, and until they do I will
boycott all sporting events hosted in South Korea and all South Korean
businesses.
Preparations for the PyeongChang 2018 Olympics are under way, and you and
your team members also may be preparing to take part in these games – if so, we
sincerely ask you to consider whether you would be willing to speak out against
this cruelty, or even to stand with us and boycott these events altogether, in
the name of compassion and right.
Thank you!
Sincerely:
