Mountain Lions in Wyoming need your voice NOW!!

Mountain Lions in Wyoming need your voice NOW!!

Wyoming lawmakers have proposed a bill (HB 0012) that would legalize the cruel trapping and snaring of mountain lions.

Sponsored by House Reps. Jim Allen and Hans Hunt, the bill would direct the Wyoming Game and Fish Commission to set rules and regulations allowing traps and snares to be used to kill these magnificent big cats!

Trapping is cruel and barbaric. The American Veterinary Medical Association, the American Animal Hospital Association, the World Veterinary Association, and the National Animal Control Association have all declared that leg-hold traps are inhumane.
Traps are indiscriminate.
They don’t care who they kill. Trapping injures and kills millions of wildlife and pets annually, including endangered or threatened species.
Animals frequently sustain severe injuries from being trapped. If not killed outright by the trap, animals can suffer physical trauma, dehydration, exposure to inclement weather, and predation by other animals.

Send a pre-written email to every member of Wyoming’s House of Representatives urging them to VOTE NO on HB 0012!

Sir, madam:

I am outraged that Wyoming is considering a bill that would legalize the cruel trapping and snaring of mountain lions.
As someone who loves mountain lions and does not want to see them inhumanely trapped and killed, I urge you to VOTE NO on House Bill 0012.

·       Trapping is cruel and barbaric. The American Veterinary Medical Association, the American Animal Hospital Association, the World Veterinary Association, and the National Animal Control Association have declared that leg-hold traps are inhumane.

·       Traps don’t care who they kill. Millions of “non-target” animals are also trapped, including companion animals and endangered or threatened species.

·       The number of lions killed in Wyoming has risen steadily over the years. Combined with other pressures such as habitat loss, competition with newly established wolf packs, poisons, being killed on roads, and increasing numbers of people who are intolerant of the big cats, it’s extremely difficult to understand how the trend can continue without serious repercussions to the populations of mountain lions.

·       Traps are nonspecific, and may catch lions less than one year old and females with kittens, which are currently prohibited in the hunt.

·       Animals frequently sustain severe injuries from being trapped. If not killed outright by the trap, animals can suffer physical trauma, dehydration, exposure to inclement weather, and predation by other animals.

·       Trapping should be banned statewide in Wyoming as it is in 48 of the other states.

Please Vote NO on House Bill 0012!

Sincerely:
