Subject: Tigers. China’s attendance at the London Conference on
Illegal Wildlife Trade

I am outraged by the horror of what has been revealed following police raids in Guangdong Province and reported in the media recently - including the Nanfang Daily and South China Morning Post - that wealthy businessmen and government officials are allegedly paying for the slaughter of tigers for luxury banquets.
I believe that such actions have no place in civilised society and ask that, following China’s attendance at the London Conference on Illegal Wildlife Trade earlier this year, the Chinese Government ensures that a strong message of zero tolerance for this kind of activity is demonstrated not only through the judicial process but through new demand reduction campaigns targeting this excessive and decadent use of endangered species.
The highest levels of government must ensure that a thorough investigation is conducted to identify the source of the tigers including DNA analysis and investigations into the gangs’ international criminal networks.

I hope too that China will
demonstrate clear leadership in seeking cooperation from neighbouring countries
to unearth the truth behind these horrific reports.
I support TigerTime, an international movement working to save the tiger in the wild.
I support TigerTime, an international movement working to save the tiger in the wild.
With wild tiger numbers as
low as 3,200 these endangered big cats demand global protection not persecution.
I look forward to hearing
more about China’s investigative and judicial response.
With sincere thanks for your attention in this very important matter.
