Subject: Faroe Islands Denmark July 2015
Madam,
dear Sir,
What shock may suffer the Faroe children when they go to other countries.
There they learn that whaling is frowned upon worldwide. One of you wrote,
that the meat and the blubber are also important for "poor families". Shall the
poor rather poison with the contaminated whale meat? No one understands
worldwide as you can get poisoned with contaminated whale meat itself, even if
it is free. Nobody understands why your canceling an intelligent and worth
protecting species that you can not domesticate like other mammals, which also
should not die. The poisoned meat would be banned in all of Europe, not by you.
Why your Government allow it, that you may poison yourself?
The rest of the world has forgiven Germany for the misdeeds of some worse
politicians and their entourage during the Second World War, but not the Faroe
Islands? Millions of German are killed in the war too, only because of the beast
Hitler, also my grandfather was killed.
What about the ancestors of the Faroe Islanders, like the Vikings? The
world no longer condemns you to it, because it would be nonsense to do so.
The only way that you stop with the "grindadrap" of pilot whales and other
dolphins is that your government forbids it. The required license to kill the
dolphins (pilot whales) is the first step.
The next step will be that the civilized world and travel companies will
avoid you. The Faroe Islands are visited each year by thousands of tourists from
AIDA Cruises and TUI Cruises and they leave a lot of money on the islands - this
will stop, believe me.
You also can no longer sell fish to Japan, because the Japanese themselves
have enough problems after contamination with Fukushima and enough fish for
themself.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has now been asked to ban the consuming
of contaminated whale meat.
In November 2008, the Faroese Chief Medical Officers Pál Weihe and Høgni
Debes Joensen announced that Pilot whale meat and blubber contains too much
mercury, PCBs and DDT derivatives to be safe for human consumption. Dioxin has
now been added to the list and the latestdietary recommendation on the
consumption of Pilot whale meat and blubber are:
Adults should eat, at most, one meal of pilot whale meat and blubber per
month.
Girls and women should refrain entirely from eating blubber as long as they
are still planning to have children.
Women who are planning pregnancy within the next three months, who are
pregnant or who are breastfeeding should refrain from eating whale meat.
The kidneys and liver of pilot whales should not be eaten.
As a result of the health issues, much of the meat is now discarded into
the ocean, as the underwater graveyards discovered by Sea Shepherd in 2010 and
2011 have shown. The grind is not a source of food. It is a despicable ritual
blood sport. Animal welfare is a farce in the Ferocious Isles and the claims of
a fast, two-minute death are more the exception than the rule.
I would be very happy if the Faroese could get their money with
whale-watching (as Rúni plans) and make the sale and export of healthy products.
I would be very happy if the killing of whales will stopped for known reasons -
worldwide!
I would be very happy if the world will be proud again to the Faroe
Islands, because there are many, many friendly Faroese that could give us their
special and otherwise healthy lifestyle to become a model.
You have in my opinion the world's best air because your land are not
poisoned by industry.
The Greenlanders has also stopped their whaling in the 60 years and are not
starving - take you examples of other civilized countries, then you can also be
an example for others again.
I can not prohibit your whaling, but I can protest against it. Whether your
listening to me, is your decision. Whether you insult me, is your decision.
Whether you poison yourself is your decision. But it is my decision to stand up
for the good that I feel.
Sincerely,
