Sir, To whom it
concerns: 11. October
2014
-----The
owner of the First Bungalow Beach Resort on Chaweng Noi Beach is planning to
get rid of all the dogs there. She has threatened to poison the dogs once the
hotel guests Yogi Braunias and Gaby Kleffken (regular guests of the First
Bungalow) had left the island.
The
whole thing was triggered by a complaint from a Swiss guest; Stefan Bracher left
the following complain-letter when he departed:
Koh
Samui 6.10.2014 Room 401 from 27.9. till 6.10.2014

Dear
Management, Dear People.
Thanks for the nice holiday here in the First Bungalow Resort. Nice people they are working here! The beach was nice the sun not so L For me the only problem have been the dogs and some guests with the dogs. This was a German dog Mafia!!!!! They are many guests they dont like dogs on the beach. They shit, they make pipi, and that is not good. I was glad that you tried to chase them away today (5.10.14). Also a German lady was feeding the cats every morning thats not ok! No feeding!!!!!!!! Dont be afraid from the Germans they should enjoy their holidays and not playing Mother Theresa of the dogs.
Good
luck, Stefan Bracher -----------------
----------The
hotel staff is now chasing the 3 dogs Sammy, Blacky and Zoe. All three dogs have
been living on this beach for a very long time, one of them since 9 years! They
have been neutered years ago, always get their yearly vaccinations and deWorming
as well as tick&flea treatment. They are lovely dogs and obviously not cost
any problems in the previous years.
I
dont understand whats all of a sudden going on with the owner of the First
Bungalow. I went to the Hotel together with my husband Werner to speak to the
very upset tourists. It didnt take long for the owner to show up and we were
immediately thrown out of the hotel area. She grabbed my arm and escorted us
towards the exit. Unbelievable!
I
then decided to meet the tourists on the beach. One of the guards came running
towards us straight away but after reminding him that the beach belongs to the
king, he stepped back.
The
guards have started to search the hotel area at 6 in the morning and every dog
they see is being brutally chased away. Tourists have been hearing the dogs
screaming with pain.
The
three dogs have only been fed on the beach and not been approached into the
hotel area. Of course its not easy for dogs to understand why they are not
allowed to chill on a bungalow terrace. The First Bungalow has a lot of regulars
and if the management likes it or not, a lot of them are dog lovers, I have met
many of them over the last few years.
The
guards even go down to the beach during the day and force the dogs out from
under the sun beds the tourists lie on. Gaby Kleffgen was threatened by one of
the guards when she tried to help the dog.
Luckily
for the dogs, many of the current guests at the First Bungalow are animal
friends and already they have built a group of about 15 people. Surely this will
prevent the staff from poisoning any dogs.
What
happens once everyone has left? It is terribly painful for a dog to get poisoned
or maybe they will just hit them to death right there on the beach? Did Sammy,
Blacky and Zoe really deserve this after all those years on the
beach?
Of
course we could pick the dogs up and take them to the shelter but what would
happen then? It wouldnt take long for new beach dogs to find their way to the
First Bungalow. They would probably be unvaccinated and not yet neutered. Is the
First Bungalow turning again into a resort which brutally removes dogs as soon
as they show up close to the hotel?
15
years ago every dog who came close to the First Bungalow was dead in with no
time. This was in a time where there were still a lot more dogs on Koh Samui and
it made no sense to have the dogs sterilized there. As soon as they were brought
back they were found dead (or half dead) on the beach or they just disappeared.
The
last few years everything was really calm and no dog-related problems on the
beach there. Why should this change now all of a sudden?
I
can only advise families with children to no longer spend their holidays there.
It often happens that dogs who ate poison drag themselves with their last power
onto a guests balcony in order to seek help.
No
child can forget how it is to watch a poisoned dog die. Save your children from
such horrible happenings.
Sincerely:

the address from the president of the Hotel Thai Association. Perhaps they will
show some interest in this matter? Poisoning or mistreating dogs definitely
wont help to bring more tourists onto the island. E-Mail:

Update:
ReplyDeleteDogs (FIRST BUNGLOW BEACH RESORT CHAWENG NOI)
Dear Animal Friends! 16. October 2014
In the name of the three dogs from the First Bungalow Beach Resort at Chaweng Noi, I’d like to sincerely ThankYou for the great protest-action! We did succeed!
For several days now the dogs have no longer been brutally chased out of the hotel area.
Gabi and Jogi who had huge problems with the owner of the hotel have now moved to the Fairhouse Beach Resort, which is right next to the First Bungalow Resort.
Many of you have also contacted John Ens from the Thai Hotel Associate. He did a great job standing up for the dogs and even went to the Mayor with the matter. Obviously the 2nd mayor in charge has spoken to the owner of the First Bungalow and she has not been seen again since. The staff that were forced by her to chase the dogs away, have told Gabi and Jogi that she was really ill. Gabi and Jogi have been spending their holiday at the First Bungalow for 8 years now and well known by the staff. The one security guy who was especially brutal to the dogs has also not been seen again.
Gabi and Jogi can feed the dogs on the beach and everything seems calm and quiet. They will be leaving Samui on the 23rd October 2014, thats how long the dogs will be save for sure but what happens once they have left?
I have pictures of the dogs and will show them to every animal friend who stays at the Chaweng Noi Beach and comes to visit us at our house.
If the dogs happen to disappear from one day to the other it will be clear that they got poisoned and eliminated fast enough.
The rainy season is just starting now and less and less tourists are coming to visit. We can just hope that the owner has realized how many people are interested in the well-being of the dogs and that she only harms the reputation of her hotel as well as Koh Samui with her actions against the dogs. I am positive that she has learned her lesson.
Since March 2013 we regularly go and check on the monkey Ling, who is being held in a cage at the Monkey Bar at the end of the Chaweng Noi Beach,.
http://www.samuidog.org/MonkeyBusiness_en.html
The Monkey Bar is right next to the First Bungalow Beach Resort. I have been banned from walking through the First Bungalow but so far theres never been a problem to get down to the beach (which of course doesnt belong to her) walking through the Fairhouse and go check on the monkey.
We will keep our eyes open when we go check on the monkey and if something would happen Id inform you immediately. Thats about all we can do for now.
Together we can be strong, something we have proven once again! Its not yet too late to be part of this protest-action and write to the First Bungalow:

Please also write at the same time to John Ens from the hotel Thai Association, he is very helpful. He is Dutch and understands German very well.
