Dear CEO:

 

Dog-meat consumption is currently being practiced in South Korea, regardless of the fact that it is illegal under South Korean Law because of the barbaric ways in which this takes place– but the laws are not enforced.

 

The dog and cat meat trades involve extreme and widespread animal cruelty, and the animals suffer unimaginable pain and distress.

South Korea’s industrialized dog meat trade slaughters approximately 2.5 million dogs each year. 

The dogs are tortured in the belief that suffering makes the meat taste better – they may be hung, electrocuted and cooked alive. 

Due to the government’s longstanding apathy towards animal cruelty, South Korea has now become the only country in the world in which dogs are bred in huge factory farming facilities solely for their meat.

These illegal trades are still being allowed to continue by Korean authorities – even though there is a large growing opposition from pet owners across South Korea, and throughout the world.

 

Know that I will not buy any of your products until you have pledged to stand against dog meat.

California Fish and Game Commissioners.

Sir, Madam:

A coalition of wildlife conservation groups successfully ended bobcat trapping in California in 2015. 

But the job was left undone: thousands of gray foxes, beavers, badgers, and other fur-bearing animals are still subject to cruel trapping for profit and recreation in California.

It's come to light that the state's oversight of its trapping program does not comply with existing state law.

A Fish and Game Code provision was added with the passage of SB 1148 (Pavley) for the 2013-2014 trapping season that requires license fees be raised to cover program and implementation costs from fee-based programs. Yet the Commission has failed to comply with this straightforward requirement for four years now.
I cannot stand for a fifth year of non-compliance.

If the Commission cannot ensure that trapping license fees are raised to a level that would realistically cover the state’s trapping program implementation costs, the Commission should eliminate the fur-trapping program.

Fewer than 100 Californians engage in commercial trapping for the fur trade. As public trustees of California's wildlife, the Commission should require licensing fees that are in line with the true cost incurred by this tiny minority of people who enjoy trapping animals for fun and profit.

That commercial and recreational fur trapping is still even allowed at all in California is shocking to most, but the fact that state wildlife managers have been illegally subsidizing this barbaric and antiquated practice at taxpayer expense is simply outrageous and unacceptable. 

I ask you to end the illegal subsidy of trapping immediately.
Comply with a never-enforced provision of California law.

I support a ban on all commercial and recreational fur trapping in the state.

Subject: Jackson County, friendship city with Incheon Bupyeong District South Korea

 

Dear County Commissioners of Jackson County:

 

Incheon Bupyeong District became Friendship city with Jackson County in 2000.

 

Dog-meat consumption is currently being practiced in that city, regardless of the fact that it is illegal under South Korean Law because of the barbaric ways in which this takes place– but the laws are not enforced.

 

The dog and cat meat trades involve extreme and widespread animal cruelty, and the animals suffer unimaginable pain and distress.

These creatures cannot speak for themselves which is why I am writing on their behalf.

 

I believe that your city wishes to be made aware of this ongoing issue, and not want to be affiliated with a city where illegal and immoral torture is being carried out on any animal, and particularly not on those that are loyal, trusting and sentient creatures, which look up to us humans as being their guardians.

 

These illegal trades are still being allowed to continue by Korean authorities – even though there is a large growing opposition from pet owners across South Korea, and throughout the world.

 

So, I am asking you to please speak with your counterparts in Incheon Bupyeong District, especially Mayor Mi-Young Hong, to urge them to enforce their own laws, not ignore them, and to show compassion towards their companion animals, and respect to their own citizens, by bringing these brutal trades finally to an end!

 

With the Winter Olympics coming up in 2018, this is the time to make change; this is the time to stop the illegal, inhumane and unnecessary cruelty.

 

I know that South Korea has many beautiful, admirable and noble practices and customs worth preserving, but this is not one of them.
